The Houston Galveston Institute is a recognized leader in the dynamic evolution of innovative, effective & accessible psychotherapy approaches. Its mission is to transform lives & communities with innovative & collaborative therapy, training & research. The Houston Galveston Institute (formerly the Galveston Family Institute) was founded in 1978 by Harlene Anderson, Ph.D., Paul Dell, Ph.D., Harold Goolishian, Ph.D. & George Pulliam, M.S.W. to meet the demands of mental health professionals seeking to increase their understanding of families & further develop their skills in systems-oriented therapy with individuals, couples, families & groups. Its collaborative approach to therapy and collaborative language systems approaches were developed by Dr. Anderson & Dr. Goolishian in the mid 1980’s. Collaborative therapy is now recognized as one of the current schools of family therapy and is included in graduate school textbooks.
The Taos Institute, designed to advance social constructionist ideas and practices, is a virtual organization operating around the globe and founded in Taos, New Mexico in 1993.The Taos Institute's mission is to bring together scholars, practitioners and students concerned with the social processes essential for the construction of reason, knowledge, and human value. We are committed to exploring, developing and disseminating ideas and practices that promote relational, creative, appreciative and collaborative processes in families, communities and organizations around the world through a social constructionist lens. Our work is in creating promising futures through social construction, and positive change one conversation at a time. We look forward to your participation in the dialogues.

Harlene Anderson, Ph.D., is founding member of the Houston Galveston Institute, the Taos Institute, and Access Success. She is recognized internationally as being at the leading edge of postmodern collaborative practices as a thinker, consultant, coach, and educator. Harlene has authored and co-authored numerous professional writings including her book Conversation, Language, and Possibilities -- A Postmodern Approach to Therapy. She is a member of the editorial review boards of several journals, has presented at numerous national and international conferences and has consulted with a variety of organizations.
Saliha Bava, Ph.D. is associate professor at Mercy College, and was awarded the 2015-2016 Mercy College Teaching Excellence Award. Saliha is interested in the performance of (complex) relationships among people, the systems we create, and the construction of our social lives and realities. As a social "actor" ("scientist") she combines interdisciplinary ideas and methodologies to reflect on, design and facilitate the performance of transformational relational processes. She embraces living as processes of improvised inquiry. Originally from India, she lives in New York now.
Adela G. García, M.A. was born and raised in Argentina. She has lived in numerous places throughout her life including France and U.S.A. Currently, she resides in the city of Buenos Aires. She is Licensed Psychologist from Universidad del Salvador (Buenos Aires) and Master of Arts from the University of Michigan, Family Therapist and Community Therapist. Founder and Chair of Fundación Centro de Estudios Sistémicos (FundaCes) (1988), a training institute in Family therapy, currently offering the International Certificate in Collaborative Practices sponsored by Houston Galveston Institute and the Taos Institute and Integrative Community Therapy. She teaches Family Therapy at undergraduate and graduate level. Professor of Family Therapy, Universidad del Salvador, Buenos Aires and Professor of Family Psychology, School of Law, Universidad de Buenos Aires. She has been the Coordinator of the Relational and Network Collaborative Program, Tromso University College, Tromso, Norway and Universidad Nacional de Lanús, Buenos Aires.
Susan Levin, Ph.D. is the Executive Director of the Houston Galveston Institute (formerly the Galveston Family Institute)The Institute is internationally recognized for its innovative contributions to the advancements of theory, psychotherapy practice, and research, and to the development of creative contexts for learning, practice, and research. It has distinguished itself by its unique developments in brief therapy and has been acclaimed for its Collaborative Language Systems Approach with its emphasis on "problemorganizing systems", the role of language, narrative and conversation in therapy, the notknowing position, and the translation of these concepts into work with difficult life situations. Students and professionals world-wide come to study at the Institute.
Sylvia London, M.A. is the Co-founder of Grupo Campos Eliseos a free standing Institute in Mexico City, affiliated to the Houston Galveston Institute dedicate to training, consultation and supervision through a postmodern and social constructionist approach. Sylvia has been a therapist and consultant for more than 20 years and holds a private practice in Mexico City, where she works with families, couples, adolescents and children and consults for schools, institutions and organizations. She teaches at Universidad de las Americas in México City, Universidad del Mayab in Merida Yucatán, México, Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio Texas, USA.
Sheila McNamee, Ph.D. is Professor of Communication at the University of New Hampshire. She is a founder, board member and vice president of the Taos Institute. Sheila is Professor in the School of Humanities at Tilburg University, The Netherlands. She is the 2001 recipient of the Class of 1944 Professorship and the 2007/2008 recipient of the Lindberg Award for outstanding Scholar/Teacher (both at the University of New Hampshire ). Her work is focused on dialogic transformation within a variety of social and institutional contexts including psychotherapy, organizations, education, health care, and communities.
